From an announcement by the DC chapter of the National Writers Union:
Join us Thursday, November 8, at 1.00 p.m., to hear Karen Buckley-Camp and Michaela Sharpe speak on “Financial Planning for Freelancers.” They will discuss the general issue of building and protecting wealth and will cover topics ranging from life insurance to retirement planning to saving for your children’s education. They will also address any other financial or tax planning issues raised by the group.
Both Karen and Michaela are members of Cornerstone Financial Partners in Bethesda. Before joining Cornerstone in 1994, Karen worked as an international banker for what is now Wachovia (formerly First American Bank). She specializes in insurance, investments, retirement planning and benefits for small businesses and self-employed consultants. She holds a BA in International Relations from Mt. Holyoke College, and an MA in Social Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin.
Michaela is a Certified Financial Planner who focuses on Retirement Planning, including asset accumulation and distribution with a focus on products to help prevent unplanned withdrawals from retirement assets. Michaela started in the financial planning business five years ago after a 20 year career in the nuclear power industry. She was drawn to financial planning because she observed colleagues making good salaries, who had no idea how or where to invest or how to prepare for retirement. Michaela is a frequent speaker at financial industry events.
Sponsored by the National Writers Union, this session will be held at 1757 N Street, N.W. The meeting is free, and one need not be a Union member to attend.
