Free Book on Blogging From People Who May or May Not Know What They’re Talking About — Yeah, you heard me. Here’s the deal: These people are giving this book away for free to anyone who mentions it on a blog. I want it, so I’m mentioning it. If you want it, you can mention it, too. But you can also wait for my review, which I should be posting this week unless it’s MUCH longer than I expect it to be.

UPDATED (about 30 min later):

I signed up and got the link, shuffled through some completely-not-related-to-blogging promo stuff, and then found myself looking at a 40 day life-improvement course, which is the only thing “unlocked” in my little dashboard. The “blogging” course is “locked,” so I don’t know what the deal is. I am going to contact support. I do not recommend that you post and download at this point, but I’ll fill you in once I learn more.

This is the “support ticket” I am entering at their 24-hour support site:

Subject: Your offer of a free blogging course appears to be a gross misrepresentation

I posted links and entered my information under the impression from your promotional materials that upon doing so I would be taken to a blogging course. Instead, I had to scroll through several hundred words worth of a direct mail pitch before finally getting to something remotely usable, and then it turns out that the only thing I can access is what appears to be a personal-power-type life improvement course and the blogging course I was promised is locked on my dashboard.

So now I’m signed up for something I don’t want, and presumably related e-mail that I also don’t want, did not get the thing I actually wanted, and posted your false advertisement on my blog, which has the potential to damage my credibility with my readership.

The only acceptable resolution to this situation is that you unsubscribe me from Simple-ology 101, give me immediate access to the blogging course I was promised in your little promo code and introductory letter, and immediately redirect others who sign up in the future to the information you promise in your offer.

Please advise immediately.

Kristen King

Their response, in part:

Our apologies for the inconvenience, the FREE Blogging Course is now “active” and “unlocked” in your Simpleology Account. Kindly log in to your Account and you will find the link of the Blogging course in the lower right side of the screen entitled “Electives” – “Blogging”.

Apparently the issue was a “system problem.” I would be VERY interested to know whether anyone else who posts the link and attempts the download has the same problem. Please leave a comment and let me know what happens either way whether you have the same problem.

After logging in following receipt of the message above, I have been able to access the course with no problem. I will still plan to post a review, BUT it’s a 15-part course, so it won’t be a complete review next week. Depending on how quickly I can get through it and how worthwhile it is to explore each individual section in a review, I may post partial reviews along the way.

Required text and links to get the freebie:

I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.

    Hi Kristen,

Sorry you had that trouble with gaining access. There were a few cases where the course was not unlocked after verifying your link, but I think the problem has been resolved. If you do hear from anyone else who has this problem if you could send them to the help desk right away (they’re open just about 24 hours a day), I would appreciate it very much. This is the kind of error of course we want to correct as quickly as possible.

(Side note: Simpleology 101 and access to our software is something we give away to everyone who joins.)

I’m about to leave for my “dirt” job but I wanted to let you know that Mr. Joyner (I believe) left his own comment over by me… and I’m personally not “buying” because I’ve known of Mark for a very long time.

He’s such a “johnny-come-lately” to blogging and you and I have had folks like Jeremy and Darren in our blogging lives for quite some time. Regardless of Mark’s “experience” as a marketer, which, in the “end” he did little justice to, he can’t possibly compare to those fellows or so many others who’ve taught us. I.E., Mark Joyner has no corner on anything new to blogging – without reading his “free” book.

    Hvae a great day,

    Mark W.
