(www.inkthinkerblog.com) — Here’s another one I can’t make, but it looks excellent. Granted, it’s not specifically geared toward writers, but I suspect there may be some wannabe geek girls among Inkthinker readers.
Please join the Women’s Information Network for “Where Did All the Girl Geeks Go?” a happy hour/forum where members and non-members can discuss the decline of women in technology careers.
Date: Wednesday, September 24th
Time: 6:30pm
Place: Science Club, 1136 19th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036Since 2001, there has been a steady decline of women in Technology. We will discuss how lack of enrollment in Tech programs/schools, bad PR, lack of mentorships and of course sexism is keeping many women from entering the field and driving other women to leave relatively successful tech careers.
So come on out and share your thoughts and meet the WIN Technology Network
- Sibyl Edwards and Nina Schwartz.

You’re right, some of your readers are Girl Geeks :) Their choice of event title is interesting since the Girl Geek Dinners(.com) are exploding all over the world! They are coming to the US slowly via Seattle and San Francisco.
I am an organizer for the GGD in Milan. I know of the WIN Tech network but there is no equivalent here in Italy. The GGD are definitely appealing to a younger set (not quite girls, though, more like young women) and perhaps that can start to bridge the gap by reaching women while they are still in decision-making stages for education and career! :)

Wow, I’d never heard of Girl Geek Dinners. I would so go to those if they had them here.
I am a geek girl too, Kirsten. Never heard of the GGD’s. Pity they are not happening in my country yet.

Damaria, maybe you could start your own Geek Girl chapter. :)

If you want to start a GGD where you are, all you really need to do is get together a team (of volunteers) and email the GGD founder, Sarah Blow (u can find her contact info on the .com site) and tell her of the interest!
Well, Damaria, there you have it! Thanks, Sara. :)
