Join this community of both beginning and experienced songwriters and bring to life the songs that lie just below the surface of our imaginations. Here we will study song structure, chord theory, lyrics and sound recording in a supportive and experimental setting. From chants to digital music all songs start somewhere.
Gene Osborn is a passionate and experienced songwriter. He is the founding member of Charlottesville’s adventure pop septet We Are Star Children and the songwriting instructor for UVA’s Young Writer’s Workshop. He currently teaches in Charlottesville City Schools.

Cost: $180 Members | $200 Non-Members
8 Mondays,April 4-May 23, 2011 | 6:30pm-9:00pm
This fiction workshop is designed to provide each writer with the opportunity to edit and revise one late-draft short story (as opposed to first-draft work). In addition, it will focus on the preparation process required for submitting to magazines and literary journals. Students will receive the tools to draft their own cover letters, to choose the best publications for their submissions, to interpret rejection letters, and to polish their first pages.
Kristen-Paige Madonia’s debut novel will be published in 2012 by Simon & Schuster, and her short fiction can be found in New Orleans Review, American Fiction, Sycamore Review, and Inkwell. She has received fellowships from VCCA, Hedgebrook, and the Millay Colony of Arts and holds an MFA from California State University, Long Beach.
Also, check out the rest of the schedule. All classes still have space except Jay Varner’s Thursday morning Creative Nonfiction class.
