Freelancers Union Report: New Unionism & the Next Social Safety Net

www.inkthinkerblog.com — This spring, I participated in a survey by the Freelancers Union. Here, with their permission, are some of what they have identified as the highlights of the results:

  • 3% of respondents feel that elected officials understand what being a freelancer is like; 10% feel that the media understand.
  • 92% of respondents are registered voters; 90% have voted in a national election in the last 5 years.
  • 94% of respondents feel that freelancers deserve more equitable tax treatment.
  • 80% of respondents who experienced periods without health insurance avoided medical care during that time.
  • 79% of respondents would be willing to pay to get access to an unemployment insurance program.

The full report is available online here.
