A New Superhero? The Rejecter!

www.inkthinkerblog.com — What a great idea for a blog: A lit agent’s assistant creates a blog with tips on how to get past the assistant to the agent. The tagline? “I don’t hate you. I just hate your query letter.” Awesome.

Unfortunately, I think maybe I came into the mix a little too soon. Don’t get me wrong, the concept is fantastic and the blog itself seems to have promise, but I’m not quite seeing the tips-on-how-to-get-past-the-first-line-of-defense thing in the way I expected. I guess it’s a little too deductive for my taste.

For instance, I love the first post I read. I feel that the what-not-to-do approach worked really well in this case. But I also feel that the last line of that post applies to most of the other posts themselves. It’s not like what The Rejecter is saying is wrong, and it’s not even dumb, it’s just not what I was expecting. I was hoping for real-life examples with some sort of “moral of the story” at the end. You know, how to get past The Rejecter. I’m not seeing it.

Well, correction, I saw a few hints of it in the early posts, but it seems more generally about submissions than what I thought the specific target would be. I’m just kind of bummed. But I’m hopeful that I’ll be more impressed as time goes on. I think this is one worth keeping an eye on.
