From the file cabinet: Irreverence at its literary best

www.inkthinkerblog.com — On the back of a quiz completed in a comp class I took at the local college during my senior year of high school (presumably in response to the question “What is behind the yellow wallpaper?”):

Behind the yellow wallpaper is . . . (drumroll, please) a wall! However, the narrator believes it is a woman who wants to get out.

My professor’s response? “You are super!” with a line drawn to the “drumroll, please” part. (Yes, he was an odd one.) I got an A, but I probably should have gotten a talking-to about what is and is not an appropriate response to a quiz question (accuracy aside).

    That’s priceless!

As for whether or not you should have gotten a talking to, I’m not so sure. Most of the lit profs I’ve had have been really easygoing and would understand the truth behind the cynicism of your answer. There are a few who may have preferred to give their students a talking-to, but the majority I’ve interacted with always enjoyed comments such as yours. :o)
