From the file cabinet: A limerick

www.inkthinkerblog.com — In a folder of creative writing from 5th grade, I found this poetic masterpiece:

There once was a brown kangaroo
Who lived in the Bronx Zoo.
He hurt his pouch
And then said “Ouch!”
I think I’ll say “Ouch!” too.

Please, hold your applause. Thank you.

I still have a short story I wrote in the 5th grade. I got an A on it and it’s not bad for a 10- or 11-year-old if I do say so myself. Hmmm, I wonder if all writers got their start as young as we did. Thanks for sharing. Although I’ll never earn a living at it, I’ll always hold a special place for it in my heart.

That’s how it all started, wasn’t it? For me, it was a poem about a salamander. :))
