A very personal post

www.inkthinkerblog.com

Those of you who’ve spent any time at Inkthinker or have met me in person know that I’m an overachieving perfectionist. That doesn’t mean I’m not still a fun girl, but, well, I’m hard on myself, and it stresses me out a lot. Well, I finally found out where all of that is coming from, and I talk about it in today’s post on LivelyWomen.com. I hope you’ll check it out, and find solace in the fact that lots of writers (or, as I like to call them, creative geniuses) deal with problems like these every day — and they don’t have to hold you back.

As a fellow overachieving perfectionist, I highly recommend the following to lighten up:

Every time I get stuck on an article/essay/story that I’ve been working on since the dawn of time, I remind myself of what my brilliant professor/thesis adviser once told me: “Better to be done than perfect.”

I have something similar over my desk in my home office: “Perfection is the enemy of the good.”

I sympathize with you, Kristen. I already display OCD tendencies and am definitely a perfectionist. I think a great many creatives do have some kind of psychological “issues” that, in some way, may inspire our creativity. At least, I’d like to think so.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers,
    MRA
