Tell your readers to roll with the unexpected — one newspaper only wanted travel articles within Texas when I thought that would be the LAST thing they’d want, one editor apologetically turned down a piece because she herself is planning to take and write about the same trip, one editor wanted my work refocused from an area road trip to a single town, and although I planned to just assist in the NASCAR work the editor is sending me to a race as their sole writer.
One editor wanted a short turnaround, so I said I’d have the article in by Feb 2nd (tomorrow!) then my son was home from school throwing up for two days and I lost all that work time. It’ll sure be a busy day today for me. :)
Just keep plugging….
