www.inkthinkerblog.com — Now that I’ve learned just how wonderful WordPress is, I’m seriously considering moving Inkthinker to a WordPress format and hosting it at my own URL. But what will this do to my traffic? How would you feel about visiting a different URL? Do you have a blog-moving experience you can share?
Should I do it or not? Leave your opinion in the comments.

Give it a shot. I just switched my writing blog to WordPress and it’s a lot easier to configure/customize than Blogger. And you can quickly import your current blog into WordPress. You might lose your comments, though.
Kath and I moved Writer Unboxed from Blogger (we called it Bugger) to WordPress late last year. WP has been great, and our traffic recovered pretty quickly. The only “downside” was that it took quite a while for others to update their links with our new addy. And I think we still have people subscribed to our old blogsite through Bloglines–despite the rash of reminders about switching over.
But, you know, the good definitely outweighs all these little nitty “bad” things. You will LOVE WP; it’s so much more user friendly. Come on over!
I hope to do this with FWJ soon. I love Wordpress.
I’ll continue to visit wherever you decide to hang your blog. My Web designer recently suggested I move my blog to my Web site, where my hosting package contains blogging capability, but I’m a creature of habit. Just seems like too much of a nuisance to me. That said, there probably are better options out there, but I’m too unmotivated to explore them!
I agree, I agree. Come to the dark side. Writing Spark’s blog (and now portfolio) has always been hosted by my own URL. I dealt with Blogger once (I had a blog idea), but after signing up realized I was missing out by not just using my own stuff. I’m not saying Blogger isn’t as good; I’ve never officially used it. But I love WP and I think you would, too.
Those of us who regularly read will update links – me, immediately, because I’m just OCD like that.
Hmm…now that I think about it, the OCD may have played a huge role in my wanting to keep everything neat and organized, all stemming from one domain rather than using other, separate services…eek!
I haven’t ever moved my blog, but I highly recommend WordPress on your own domain. I’ve done that from the beginning and am very happy with it.
However, I also keep a blogger blog since so many blogger blogs don’t allow commenters to use an other identity. Periodically I post links to posts on my main blog. You might do that to keep from losing traffic – if they go to you old address, they’ll find links to the new.
Thanks for the input, folks. Lillie, I particularly like your traffic solution.
I have two WordPress blogs already (http://www.livelywomen.com and a secret one, heh heh) and I just love using it. I think I’m going to do it, but I’m planning to wait a bit until the cash flow is more, well, flowy. ;]
I’ll keep you posted, no pun intended. And in the meantime, keep the suggestions and comments rolling!

Wordpress is great. You’ll love it. :) I just moved my personal writing blog to a new domain, and will be combining a few others in the future. I look at it this way: even if it may be a bit more difficult in the “now” traffic-wise, what’s better for you and your readers long-term? :)
I love Wordpress, too, and only wish I’d moved from Blogger sooner! Unlike what Scott said, though, I didn’t lose my comments. I was worried about that, but everything imported very easily and quickly. It was a dream!
And Wordpress.org is free. I’m not sure about your “cash flow,” but I already had my site hosted on my domain, and my hubby just set up Wordpress.org on there, too. It’s not like Typepad where you have to pay. So, it shouldn’t cost you anything, unless you wanted to start an actual “inkthinker.com” domain, which of course you’d have to pay for the domain name. If you had it under “kristenkingfreelancing.com/blog” then it wouldn’t cost.
Either way, I’ll gladly keep reading wherever you are! :o)
I’m thinking about moving to Wordpress, too. The templates are better looking and easier to customize.
Go for it! I was a bit dubious at first but I’ve never looked back.
It’s much more friendly and flexible.
