28th Annual Washington Independent Writers Conference a Smashing Success

www.inkthinkerblog.com — This past Saturday was the WIW 28th Annual Conference, and it was awesome. Peter Bowerman and Francine Prose were there, along with tons of agents and freelance topic experts. It was amazingly useful and lots of fun.

Here are the sessions I attended, which I’ll be summarizing later this week:

  • Well-Fed Self-Publishing: Lose Your Fear of S&M (Sales & Marketing) and Put Your Book on the Map! by Peter Bowerman
  • Refresh and Restart Your Writing Career: Working from Your Strengths and Interests by Ruth Schimel
  • Johns Hopkins University Craft Session: Writing for the Digital World by Sam Meddis, Vikki Valentine, and Mary Flinn

I also presented a session on Writers and the Web: Marketing and Promotion in Cyberspace. I recorded my session (all but the first five minutes, because I forgot to start the recorder in the beginning), and once I figure out how to upload the file, I’m going to podcast it. We ran out of time at the end, so I had to skip over some of the items that I had intended to talk about in more detail, but all in all I think it turned out pretty well! I’ll look forward to your feedback and additional questions once I get those up.

Great WIW session! You offered some good, practical tips on how to promote yourself through blogging and creating a website. I think everyone in the room got something out of your session.

Oh, that’s exciting! I’m glad you were able to attend AND present! I’m really looking forward to your summaries and podcast – some of us aren’t so lucky as to have these kinds of conferences nearby, haha.
