This is a really simple, but quick way to gather a huge cache of ideas really fast when you’re stuck for ideas.
1. First, go to a free keyword research tool. Wordtracker offers a great free one; just Google “Wordtracker free keyword tool” and you should find it pretty easily.
2. Type in 1-2 words. This will be a word within a topic you’re interested in. For example, if you write about or are interested in candy canes, type the phrase “candy canes” in the box (withOUT the quotation marks).
3. Click on “Hit Me.” Now you’ll have a list of search results. These are things that real people are searching for every day. But you’ll be using this list to generate some good article topics. Taking our example from above, let’s see how we can take that list and create some article topics to write about.
I’ll grab a few from the list and let’s see what we come up with….
- 17 legend of the candy cane
- 14 candy cane poem
- 14 story of the candy cane
- 14 wholesale candy canes
- 12 blueberry candy cane
- 12 candy cane candle holder
Okay, we’ll just ignore those numbers and take a look at the phrases. Let’s see what we can brainstorm from this list of phrases:
- The Legend of the Candy Cane
- Fun Candy Cane Poems for Christmas
- Candy Cane Poems for Kids
- Candy Canes: The Story of the Candy Cane
- Wholesale Candy Canes: Where to Find Candy Canes for Your Store
- Wholesale Candy Canes: How to Buy Candy Canes in Bulk
- Why Blueberry Candy Canes are so Popular
- Christmas Gift Ideas: Candy Cane Candle Holder
- 5 Different Uses for a Candy Cane Candle Holder
See? I just came up with 9 different article titles based on that small list of phrases. I could have wrote a lot more, but I just wanted to give you an idea.
When you’re running short on idea, give this a try. It’s fun and you can come up with a TON of ideas really fast!

That’s an interesting idea. Another tool that’s great for that is the Adwords sandbox. Not only will it give you a general idea of which phrases are searched most often based on keywords, but also how well-paying the keywords can be (again in a general sense; a sliding scale rating as opposed to hard figures). If you monetize with things like Adsense or YPN, it’s a great tool to not only put together titles that will be searched often, but once that may earn you some more money as well. :)
