My Favorite Craigslist Letter to Date

www.inkthinkerblog.com

Well, heck, I’d hire me! (I hope they feel that way…)

Thursday, March 8, 2007

I have an eye for detail, a flair for language, at 5+ years of experience writing and editing for business and publication, and I’m very interested in the freelance copywriting position you recently advertised on Craigslist. My resume is attached for your review, and here are some highlights of my freelance career:

Clients include…

– b5media (http://www.b5media.com/)
– George Washington University (Washington, DC)
– Georgetown University Press (Washington, DC)
– [redacted cuz it’s a secret] (Chicago, IL)
– Schum & Associates (McLean, VA)
– Steps For Living (Brooklyn, NY)

Projects include…

– Blogging (www.livelywomen.com)
– Brochure and flier design and copy
– Catalog copy
– Direct response postcards
– PowerPoint ad decks
– Web content

The bottom line: I’m good, I’m experienced, and I can get the job done.

I’m a full-time freelancer and am available during East Coast business hours at my regular rate of $XXX/hour and after hours (at my discretion) at an increased rate. My professional website, http://www.kristenkingfreelancing.com/, was a finalist in the 2006 Writer’s Digest Best Writer’s Website Contest, and my blog, www.inkthinker.blogspot.com, was named one of the Top 10 Blogs for Writers in 2006.

I would be delighted to learn more about [redacted]’s need for a freelance copywriter with lots of ideas and a fresh and flexible writing style. Would you please contact me at your convenience at kristen@kristenkingfreelancing.com
or 540-220-2184 to discuss? I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Kristen King

Sad News About a WIW Member

www.inkthinkerblog.com

I just received word today via the WIW LISTSERV that WIW member Bob Pastorio is having some very serious health problems and is not doing well. Those who know him, please visit the blog that has been set up to chronicle the situation and leave a note of encouragement. His wife is reading him all of the comments and e-mails that come in.

A Quick Note on Etiquette for Dealing With Sources

www.inkthinkerblog.com

DO thank all of your sources for their participation.

DON’T send out a desperate plea to all of your writing colleagues begging for a source on short notice and then fail to even acknowledge someone who drops everything to give you some quotes so you won’t miss your deadline.

This writing etiquette moment has been brought to you by a writer who shall remain nameless (and, as far as this girl is concerned, sourceless from here on out).
