Today was quite a day. Over at LivelyWomen.com, I share a funnier-now-than-when-it-happened story about Pickles’ adventures with healthy snacking, along with a picture of the precious little monster herself. Check it out.

I queried in a general sense because of my experience with a special needs brother in that I have some sort of “authority” in the issues they write about.
Here is their response:
Dear Jessica,
Thanks very much for your interest in [magazine]. While we do not have any writing assignments immediately available, I will review your information and keep it on file for consideration for future assignments. In addition, I’m attaching a copy of our writers’ guidelines for your reference.
Best,

THAT’S GOOD, YES?!?! :)YAYYYY!
Great job, Jessica! Way to put yourself out there. This just goes to show that even if you don’t have a specific story idea in mind, editors are always in the market for strong writers whom they can count on to come through with high-quality articles.

Hi Kristen!
At 8:44 AM this morning, I sent out my first query for the challenge. At 11:21 AM I received this reply:
That’s a great idea for an article, Harmony. Thank you! I would love to go ahead, though I can’t promise you the month we would publish it in quite yet. We work ahead editorial-wise, and I’ve already assigned articles out to April.
But if you’d like to go ahead and begin writing for now that would be great. As a local magazine that’s free for readers, we don’t have a whole lot to offer writers in terms of payment, however. So, if you’re okay with $100 as more of an honorarium for the piece that would be great.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks for your query,
[redacted]
I am so excited!! Yes, it is for a small amount and a free publication but this will be my very first clip – thanks again for starting the challenge.
Harmony
Congratulations, Harmony!

Jessica’s suggestion over at LivelyWomen.com that I turn my post on Online Prayer and Cancer Patients? into an article has prompted the first draft of a query to Psychology Today, and I’m working on turning yesterday’s post Do the Risks of Blood Transfusions Outweigh the Benefits? into a query for a major daily paper’s Health section. More on those ideas as they develop. Thanks for the encouragement Jess! As I was falling asleep last night, I feel up with the BEST first line of a query EVER, but I’m not sharing…
