Official 2007 Inkthinker Query Challenge Kick-Off

www.inkthinkerblog.com

Ladies and gentlemen, writers of all ages, start your engines. The 2007 Inkthinker Query Challenge starts at MIDNIGHT!

12 months + 120 queries = Imminent publishing success

The rules are simple. In fact, they’re so simple that there aren’t any actual rules, just kind of an outline as to how this is going to work.

The plan is for all of us, me included, to get out a minimum of 120 queries by the end of 2007. This breaks down to 2-3 queries a week, so don’t panic. For the purposes of the challenge, a query is any written document, electronic or hard copy, that you submit to a publisher, editor, or agent to pitch an idea for a writing assignment. Fiction or nonfiction, book or article, it doesn’t matter. If you want to query for unpaid assignments, that’s fine — it’s up to you. As long as you’re querying, I don’t care.

Throughout the month, I’ll be posting tips and ideas to keep you motivated and help you improve your acceptance-to-query ratio. At the end of the month, we’re going to do a round-up to find out where everyone is with their goals, and I’ll update the list in the sidebar with the new numbers. I will post a call for totals, and you’ll be responsible for e-mailing me your numbers.

Throughout the challenge, I’ll also be posting updates and announcements every time you let me know that one of your queries got accepted. Don’t be shy — this is your time to shine!

At the end of the YEAR, I’m going to award a prize to the person with the most queries. I haven’t decided what it’s going to be yet, but it’ll be good, I promise. Cheaters never prosper, so don’t you DARE fabricate query totals with the hopes of winning the prize. It’ll be good, but it won’t be so good that it’s worth completely destroying your personal integrity. And this is kind of a no-brainer, but I’m not eligible to win the prize.

At random times throughout the year, I’m going to put all of the active participants’ names into a hat/bowl/something and draw a name for a surprise prize. You’re eligible to win the random prize drawing only one time, and you have to be ACTIVELY participating in the challenge (ie, reporting totals to me each month) for your name to be included in the drawing.

When you’re ready to sign up, e-mail me with your name and URL so I can add you to the list of participants. The count starts at 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, and not a minute sooner.

Check out the Query Challenge FAQs.

If you’re participating in the challenge, please link to this post from your blog/website any time you mention it so other folks have the opportunity to sign up as well. This isn’t compulsory, but it will definitely be helpful in getting the word out, so I encourage you to do it.

Now, on your mark, get set, GO!

Help a sister out!

www.inkthinkerblog.com

My heart is racing, which is hilarious, because I’m sitting at my desk. The thing that’s got me all hot and bothered is that I just sent off my query to the local paper pitching my blog idea. Yeah, yeah, I know I was supposed to do it yesterday, but I was all nervous, so I put it off. I don’t know why I feel like I’m getting ready to pass someone one of those “Do you like me? Check Yes or No” notes, but I’ve got major jitters.

Calm me down, please! And leave lots of relevant, intelligent comments on the posts that show up on the homepage so that, when they come to make sure I really am capable of writing a blog, it looks like y’all think I’m the best thing since sliced bread. ;] Okay, I’m kidding. But now that I think about it…

Query Challenge Update!

www.inkthinkerblog.com

Less than 24 hours into the challenge, and we’ve already got 10 participants! Well, 11 if you count me.

Some great comments from the sign-up messages:

Thanks, this is a great idea!

Why, thank you! I think so, too!

I love this idea Kristen.
You really inspire me —

The funny thing is that YOU guys inspire ME!

Wow, you’ve been such a source of information and inspiration to me in the past
couple months, and now this. The timing is perfect. January 10 is my first
official day of self-employment.

Um, yes, that’s because I planned it that way. ;]

Since I’m a relatively new writer, 120 queries seems like
a lot to me, but no better time than now to step up my game….thanks for
the opportunity.

Have faith in yourself. You can do it! We all can. And we’re going to, dammit!

Go, queriers! Be creative! Be diligent! Be productive!

Inkthinker 2007 Query Challenge!

www.inkthinkerblog.com

The complete rules/information for the 2007 Inkthinker Query Challenge are available RIGHT HERE. Please click to read the updated post for the most current info.

Are you ready to climb your way to publishing success? Well, you’re in the right place. January 10, 2007, is the official kickoff of the First-Ever Inkthinker Annual Query Challenge!

12 months
120 queries
Loads of fun

Here’s how it works: Starting today, January 8, 2007, I’m going to start building a list of everyone who’s participating. You’ll e-mail me your name and a link to your site/blog/whatever, and I’ll add you to a fancy-schmancy list of 2007 Query Challenge Participants. You can also leave your “sign-up” info in the comments, but you don’t have to.

Beginning on January 10, we’re going to GET WRITING! The goal is for every single one of us, me included, to get out 120 queries by the end of 2007. This breaks down to 10 queries a month, which is so doable that maybe we shouldn’t even call it a challenge. Well, we’re going to anyway, because it just sounds good, but think about HOW EASY THIS SHOULD BE FOR YOU! We’re talking two, maybe three queries a week. That ain’t nuttin’.

Every month on the last day of the month, I’m going to put out a call for you to E-MAIL ME YOUR TOTALS. You don’t have to e-mail me your total if you don’t want to–I’m not going to force you to do it–but I think it will encourage you and keep you motivated, so pretend that EVERYONE WILL KNOW IF YOU SLACK ON YOUR QUERIES. During the first week of the following month, I’ll do a special post to update the cumulative totals. I’ll also post about any success stories you want to share with the crew.

So, are we ready to get rolling? I know I am! And as soon as I post this, I’m going to go e-mail that guy at the local paper and pitch my very own blog.

Now, what are you waiting for?
