1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.
2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.
3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.
4. Every sentence must do one of two things — reveal character or advance the action.

Please also e-mail me your success stories so we can celebrate with you! An announcement will be going out to the mailing list, too, but I know not everyone is receiving those messages, so just to be safe, here we are.
The second half of the Challenge kind of deteriorated as I got overwhelmed with stuff, but next year’s Challenge is going to be slightly different and decidedly better organized, with more prizes and more ways to succeed. I will keep you posted as I finalize the plans. We will launch on January 1, so keep your eyes peeled for more details!

Learning to be an effective female writer or blogger can be challenging, but not for the infamous Deb Ng, over at FWJ. Her presence in the blogworld has been around for some time and she has come to be a authoritarian at her craft. Deb won 2nd place with the coveted “Top 10 Blogs for Writers – 2007/2008?.
Also in this elite category of outstanding blog writers in 6th place is b5media’s very own Anne Wayman. Anne blogs wonderfully over at The Golden Pencil giving writing job leads and sage advice on how to find lucrative writing assignments. I visit her blog at least twice a week. She never has a lean job pool.
