101 Reasons Freelancers Do It Better, from HR World

www.inkthinkerblog.com — I couldn’t have been more delighted to find yesterday’s post on HR World on the 101 reasons that freelancers — and freelancing as a profession — rock. (As if we needed any convincing?)

The reasons span these categories: Time, Sticking it to the man, Money, Relationships, Mental health, Physical health, Motivation, Working conditions, Flexibility, and “Is this the fun part?”

A happy worker is a productive worker, and it’s hard to find a happier lot than freelancers. Whether they’re entrepreneurs, Web workers or something in between, freelancers enjoy a better lifestyle than their cube-dwelling brethren. Read on for 101 reasons why.

What are your reasons to love freelancing?

Habits for Success Meme (the April IOU)

www.inkthinkerblog.com — Shortly after our move to the new place, I posted an IOU for a meme that Brian Westover tagged me to complete, and I haven’t yet paid up. Well, here goes!

List the top 5 to 10 things you do almost every day that help you to be successful. They can be anything at all, but they have to be things you do at least 4 or 5 times every week.

Like Brian, I’m not sure I necessarily qualify as “successful,” but here are things I do to work toward succeeding in my business and in my life overall.

  1. I try to focus on spiritual things first, which means considering a daily scripture, spending some time in prayer and personal study, and arranging my schedule to accommodate religious meetings (I have several each week). “Keep on, then, seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to you. So, never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Sufficient for each day is its own badness.” (Matt 6:33, NWT)
  2. I try to focus my energy on positives rather than getting bogged down in the negatives. That doesn’t always work out, but I’m doing my best. ;] By maintaining a forward momentum, it’s easier to, well, keep moving forward.
  3. I write a lot. This is kind of a “duh,” but I’m amazed at how many “writers” never actually write anything. I’ve got this blog, Lively Women, meow/bark/blog, and the L-K Article Challenge to keep me busy, plus client work, and I try to work in some personal projects here and there as well. The more I write, the better I write. [continue reading…]

How Focusing on Blog Post Titles Won Me an iPod

www.inkthinkerblog.com — I’m totally serious. Thanks to an ongoing training program for b5media bloggers, I entered — and won — a blog post title contest with my somewhat controversial post “To My Friend, on the Morning of Her Boob Job” on Lively Women. And the prize — this is so cool — is an iPod Shuffle! How awesome is that, right?

So in the interest of sharing the wealth (of knowledge, that is, not the iPod ;]), here are some resources for writing great titles:

What title/headline resources do you recommend?

You Speak, I Hear You!

www.inkthinkerblog.com — The overwhelming response to Friday’s informal survey is that you prefer a 3-column format that lets you see more of the individual posts rather than the 4 column format I was trying out, so here we are with a slightly revised look.

Is this a little easier to read and navigate?
