2007 Query Challenge Success Story #3 (from Terah Shelton)

www.inkthinkerblog.com

Kristen,

Well, I’m off to a great start with two queries sent in two days, with one acceptance and an interview for a travel column! This was the response to yesterday’s query:

Thanks for your quick response and the writing samples. They look good! I’ll put together an assignment for you for Slovenia and Croatia , including a template for the order of information.

And this was the response from today’s query:

I received your clips. I actually might be in the market for a new travel writer soon. I’d love to set up a time this coming week or the next to talk more about possibly writing travel stories for the [redacted]. Is there a day or time that works better for you? Fridays are best for me, and I’m usually available from about 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.I look forward to hearing from you.

I know this is not normal, but I wish it was!

Jeez, Terah, me, too! This is excellent news! Keep up the good work. :]

That is so great, Terah! Very inspiring. Congrats.

Kristen, I know you received my email(you quoted me:)), but I think you forgot to add me to the challenge roster. No rush, I just want to make it official. Thanks again!

Sorry, Julie! I had this feeling that I’d missed someone, so I’m glad you pointed it out. And I’m sorry it was you!

Hi, Kristen! Here’s my current success story. I wrote to the editor of one of the the local papers regarding an upcoming event I thought he might want to cover. I’m a regular columnist for him, so he already knows me. (Does that count???)

Anyway, I wrote and asked if he would be interested in an article about the event (a bridal show), and he immediately wrote back and said YES!!! The pay isn’t huge ($75), but it’s an electric bill! Plus, now that I know he’s looking for freelance work, you can bet I’ll be on the lookout for more potential articles for future issues.

Thanks for inspiring us with your challenge!

    Cheers,
    MRA

Thanks everyone! The interview was today and I’m happy to report (after consideration from the editor-in-chief), I got the job! Thanks Kristen. The challenge is only three days old and it has changed my life! I look forward to the days ahead.

    Best,

    Terah

Terah, that’s great news. I’m so excited for you! The important thing to remember is that you did this for yourself. The challenge was just your excuse to get rolling.
