My new business cards are here, my new business cards are here!

www.inkthinkerblog.com — With a nod to Linda Formichelli for giving me the idea to get them from StreetCards.com in the first place and for the idea for how to present them on the blog for all the world to see.

Front: talk is cheap. good writing is priceless.
Back: kristen king freelancing, e-mail, phone, fax, URL, blog

The flowers hearken to an earlier era, during which I went through a sunflower/zinnia/daisy phase in my marketing materials, as evidenced by these two failed website designs, which I decided I hated as soon as I finished them, despite the fact that I did and still do love bright, splashy colors and flowers:

We’ve got a little pink and gold (and some bright, contrast-y blue, too!), which you know I love:

And of course, my beloved tag line, from the days of the minimalist version of the site:

I’m definitely pleased with the final product. And no, it’s not exactly the same as my current site, which uses a softer pink, simpler font, and more refined style, but I think the combo of the two works nicely, and both together and individually they accurately represent my style and my business. And isn’t that the goal of all marketing materials?

The boys are back in town

www.inkthinkerblog.com — Well, the Kristen is back in town, but I’m sure there are some boys who left Fredericksburg recently and came back, so the title is still accurate. Our trip north was nice, however exhausting. The highlight was that, on learning that Jesse and I are planning to purchase a large piece of property on which to build our dream home, my elderly (and ailing) great-uncle suggested that we “put in a cash crop” of marijuana to finance the endeavor. “Who cares if you end up in jail? At least the land will be paid for.” He laughed when I asked him if he’d post bail for us, but neither agreed nor refused. (I refrained from suggesting that buying the land for us would be cheaper than the cost of our inevitable legal defense needs.) I know who I’ll be contacting with my one phone call!

While I was gone, Alicia suggested that I plan ahead for the next trip by pre-posting. Frankly, I never thought of writing a bunch of entries and post-dating them so they show up daily while I’m gone, but now that I’ve thought of it, I’m not sure what I think. Suggestions and comments on the idea are welcome!

I’m outta here

www.inkthinkerblog.com — Well, it’s only three hours later than we intended, but we’re heading out of town momentarily, which means no new blog entries until I get back on Saturday night or Sunday morning. Can you stand it? Sorry I didn’t get to the second half of the WIW summaries, but I promise they’ll be at the top of my list when I return.

In the meantime, I invite and encourage you to work your way through the ::inkthinker:: archives and see what you’ve missed. Leave your comments, but don’t be alarmed if they don’t show up right away. I have them set to moderator approval to avoid spam, and since I’ll be gone for a few days with no internet access, I can’t approve them.

Whether you celebrate a holiday this week (like my family) or not (like me), I hope you enjoy the extra time off work and some half-price turkey–and all of the great sales this weekend.

Day 1 of a 2-Day Week

www.inkthinkerblog.com — I love/hate holiday weeks. I don’t celebrate holidays, but my family does, and Thanksgiving is the only chance I get to visit with a certain branch of my dad’s side of the family, so we make the trek to upstate NY every year for a visit. It’s fun, it’s delicious, it’s a really long drive. And there’s no cell service. And there’s no internet. And although I love it, it stresses me out because I hate being unconnected. So…I’m trying to cram as much connectivity as possible into the next two days!

Here’s what’s on the plate for today:
– Some back and forth on my new consulting gig – DONE
– Biz lunch (yum!) in DC with a potential scholarly publishing client
– Some rewriting project work (it’s time for holiday newsletters, folks!)
– Edit three medical journal articles
– Mystery novel critique
– Couple of quotes
– Skool (next week is the final and then I’m OFF for WEEKS!)

What are you working on today?
