Ugly WordPress Themes

(www.inkthinkerblog.com) — Kim Woodbridge is awesome, and not just because she solves all of my tech problems with a smile. Last week, on her blog (Anti) Social Development, Kim said what we were all thinking in her post 5 Ugly WordPress Themes. It’s a fun read.

What’s your least favorite WordPress theme?

What Are You Working on Today?

(www.inkthinkerblog.com) — The work day is almost over for those of us who keep regular hours (ha!). How did you spend your time today?

Right now, I’m formatting what seems like an endless document as a sub for another freelancer who is a great friend and huge source of support in my freelance career, which makes projects like this palatable if not enjoyable because I love helping out friends. When they pay me. You know how it is.

Earlier, I wrote a resume (because yes, I’m still doing that like EVERY DAY), and edited two others. I also had a conversation with a former almost-client who’s a professional athlete and who I might be doing a BIG project for in 2009, one we tried to get off the ground last year.

I also did some work on my new blog, Sass Pants, and send an e-mail to my tech guru, Kim, with support requests for this blog and meow/bark/blog.

AND! I took a lunch break. Go me.

Tell me about YOUR day!

Grammar Rules Copywriters Can — and Should — Break

(www.inkthinkerblog.com) — My pal Susan Gunelius has a killer article on Entrepreneur.com about the importance of effective writing (versus letter-perfect, unfailingly grammatical writing). Her recommended rules to break:

  1. Don’t use contractions.
  2. Prepositions are unacceptable to end your sentences with.
  3. Don’t use no slang, dawg.
  4. No sentence fragments.
  5. Once-sentence paragraphs are not okay.

Read Susan’s article, Copywriting Grammar Ain’t Perfect.

Looking for Mr. Goodtweet: How to Pick Up Followers on Twitter
by Guy Kawasaki

The question, “How do I get more followers on Twitter?” is unspoken because admitting that you want more followers is to acknowledge that you don’t have many. Thus, you probably don’t need this advice, but you may “have a friend” who will find it useful. Read More >>
