Pickles Goes Hollywood

Pickles the Pug got a nose job yesterday. No, we’re not psychos who mutilate our pets to look like famous people (or dogs) — we’re responsible pet owners who know that irresponsible breeders through the years have caused the pug population to have inappropriately small noses and nasal passages that cause serious breathing problems later in life. Thus, the nose job.
We just got home from picking her up from the vet’s office. You can’t even really tell she had anything done because it’s all on the inside, but her nostrils are just a teeny bit more flared.
But now the funny part (as if the idea of my dog getting a nose job isn’t funny enough).
This is not Pickles, but this is what she’s wearing (except hers is like three times bigger, for some reason), and she’s about as happy about it as this little guy. We can’t stop laughing at her because she keeps running into things. Is it mean? Maybe a little. But admit it, you’d be laughing, too!
We’re trying to keep her quiet for the next two weeks (Yeah, right, like that’s going to happen? Have they met my dog?) so she can heal from the nose job and from her spay, which we did at the same time (again, responsible — and economical — pet owners), so I’ll have lots of photo opps! For now, we’re just trying to let her settle in to being back at the house.

KK’s Queries

www.inkthinkerblog.com

Yesterday, I sent out two queries: one to a local parenting magazine and one to AARP. I think both of my ideas rocked, so I’m hopefully that I’ll get at least acknowledgment, if not acceptance. I almost didn’t query the local mag because I want to break into national parenting pubs, but this idea is so customizable and I have such good ideas for national sources that I’ll still be able to spin it appropriate, so I went for it!

I still haven’t sent my Psychology Today query, but I’m working on it!

Interview Opportunity for College Graduates

www.inkthinkerblog.com

Be a part of this great new project from Kristen Fischer, author of Creatively Self-Employed: How Writers and Artists Deal with Career Ups and Downs (February 2007).

Here’s the info, straight from the horse’s mouth:

What College Didn’t Prepare Me For

Time to share with college students all the things that you wish you knew before you put on your cap and gown! I’m writing a book on the topic and am eager to hear what YOU have to say! The book will be published by Super College LLC in Fall 2008.

Please choose at least two sections that you identify most with and answer as many questions as you can in at least 3 sentences. You will be contacted before anything is published and asked to sign a release form. By filling out the questionnaire, it does not guarantee inclusion in the book. Please return these responses to jerseygal526@yahoo.com by Jan. 31, 2007. Feel free to repost this in your blog or email it to a friend!

Questionnaire and required release form are at http://www.kristenfischer.com/college.htm.

Hmm, do I smell free publicity for the interviewees? I think I do!
