Did I call that or what?

www.inkthinkerblog.com — Brian Turner, whom I mentioned in my Poets to watch post after my return from the Dodge Poetry Festival, is featured in the November/December issue of Writer’s Digest, in the awesome article “Poetry as Body Armor.” His book, Here, Bullet, is discussed at length.

Head over to your local bookstore and pick up a copy of the issue if you’re not already a Writer’s Digest subscriber. BTW, this is the issue that contains the index of the preceding year of articles, so it’s worth $8.00 cover price.

I like to move it move it

www.inkthinkerblog.com — I hope I do, anyway, because I spent like $300 at VA Runner this weekend on running shoes and clothes. Lately I’ve just been feeling the need for [foot]speed, so I talked hubby into taking me to the running store for gear (although I footed the bill, no pun intended), and his sister, who’s a long-distance runner, is going to help me devise a training plan. I figure, hey, I have this incredibly flexible schedule, so I should take advantage of it–and get out of the house for some fresh air, sunshine, and face-to-face human contact at least a few times a week.

My desk is still a disaster, but enough about that

www.inkthinkerblog.com — Pickles scared the living daylights out of me about 15 minutes ago when she magically appeared in the office. When I last saw her, she was sleeping on the couch, downstairs, on the other side of the baby gate that keeps her from sneaking up the steps. I briefly thought she had learned to fly, until I discovered that hubby had moved the gate when he left for work and I didn’t realize it.

On a related note, the neighbor’s dog WON’T SHUT UP. I don’t know what is wrong with these people that they leave their barking dog outside 24 hours a day, but it’s getting old FAST. Last fall it was so bad that I actually called the police one night around midnight. They’re better in the evenings than they used to be, but lucky me, I get to listen to their precious yapper all. freakin’. day.

Today’s game plan:
– proof an eight-page newsletter in PDF
– edit 3 medical articles and 6 short book chapters
– get moving on editing for my friend Kristen’s book manuscript, which I’ve had entirely too long and simply haven’t finished yet
– follow up with a client who’s reviewing a letter of agreement
– follow up with a new potential copyediting client who send me a test before I went on vacay and needs to give me instructions
– leave for school ON TIME

Incidentally, this weekend I attended a meeting of the Riverside Writers Club. Despite the fact that I’ve lived in Fredericksburg for 6 years, I had never heard of this long-established group until last week, when I stumbled across one of their fliers at the library and hey, whaddya know, there was a meeting only a few days later. I had a wonderful time and met some cool folks, including freelance writer and columnist Mary Coffman-Burke, who evidently lives in my area. Yay! Local writers!

New Issue of Notes in the Margin Now Live!

www.inkthinkerblog.com — The October 2006 issue of Notes in the Margin is now online right here. Typically I send it out via e-mail to subscribers, but thanks to a weird glitch in my Zinester service (I’m not particularly pleased with them, btw), it’s sending the HTML coding but not converting it to the results of the HTML. Thus, the link.

If you enjoy this issue, please consider using the subscription box in the sidebar to join up. Whether the complete issue is e-mailed or posted, you’ll receive notification in your inbox when it’s available. It’s free, it’s occasional, it’s a good time. Please subscribe.

Outlook issues

www.inkthinkerblog.com — Most of the time, I love my MS Outlook. Today, however, I’m not such a big fan. It’s receiving messages just fine, but for some reason it’s not letting me send them despite the fact that when I log in at my host’s portal I can send from there just fine. Days like these make me feel like an idiot because I know SOMETHING’s wrong, but I can’t figure out WHAT. It was fine yesterday and for the first part of this morning, and then poof! Gone. Suggestions welcome! (I know how sweet you all are that you always want to help, but since I can still send from the website, it’s not a crisis. Don’t spend any significant amount of time troubleshooting this for me–you have better things to do, things that might earn you some money.)
